Parallels warns of Desktop 8 / El Capitan incompatibility

Parallels has warned the many users of its Parallels Desktop virtualisation software for OS X that version 8 is not compatible with the forthcoming OS X 10.11 El Capitan.

With OS X 10.11 El Capitan due for release next week, Parallels has issued a timely warning that Parallels Desktop 8 is incompatible with the new operating system.

"If you intend to upgrade to Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11), please note that Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac will NOT support OS X El Capitan (10.11)," the company said in a service notification to its customers.

"Before you upgrade to OS X El Capitan, be sure to upgrade to Parallels Desktop 11 for Mac. It is our latest version, fully optimized and enhanced for OS X El Capitan."
Parallels Desktop 11 was released last month with prices starting at $99.95.

Upgrades from version 9 and 10 cost $64.95, but judging by a web page linked from the service notification it seems this pricing may also be available to owners of version 8.
